With 3 weeks left in the season, San Francisco could possibly clinch a playoff spot this Sunday. They will need to beat Tampa Bay first, and after that will be rooting for the Titans, Vikings and Packers.
The 49ers are playing to prepare for the postseason, and Colin Kaepernick should get a good test from the surging Tampa Bay Bucs.
After their hard fought, dramatic win over the Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers have to avoid a letdown this week against Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers had a terrible start to their season and after digging themselves in a deep hole, have played better as of late, and not a team to be taken lightly.
In a game that they had to win, San Francisco responded. They beat the best team in the NFC, (record-wise) and remain in control of their playoff destiny.
The pivotal game between the 49ers and Seahawks will be without a few key players. As a whole though, both teams are relatively healthy and have to be pleased heading into this important rematch.
After catching his 50th touchdown as a 49er last Sunday, Vernon Davis finally got some recognition. While nobody who follows the team doubts his talent, in his 8 years as a 49er he has been named to only one Pro Bowl, and more times than not is left out of the conversation as the best tight end in the NFL. This figures to change this season though as he can no longer be ignored.
The Seahawks have had the upper hand this season since they defeated the Niners in Seattle earlier in the season, but the Niners will get their chance to make a statement at home.
The division rivalry between the 49ers and Seahawks has been completely one sided as of late. Seattle has won the past two meetings and will look to make it 3 straight in a game that holds playoff implications for both sides.
The 49ers swept their season series against the Rams due to the play of the defense. While all phases of the team chipped in, it was the San Francisco defense that ensured that they maintain control of their playoff destiny as the 49ers won their second straight game.
Despite the long list of names on the 49ers injury report, the fact remains that they are getting healthier. The Rams, on the other hand have a few players getting over concussions that may not be available Sunday.
The big news around 49er camp this week is that Michael Crabtree has been activated. For a team that has struggled to throw the ball, the return of their only Pro Bowl receiver from a year ago is big news, and makes San Francisco a well-rounded team.
If San Francisco hopes to avoid their 5th loss this season, they are going to have to beat a St. Louis team that has improved its level of play since their week 4 match-up. While this is far from an easy win, the 49ers are at home, seem to have their offense on the right track, and should sweep the season series against their division rival.
Pete Carroll knows all about successfully chasing championships. Yet this pursuit is particularly sweet. The Seahawks and their 12th Man are headed for the Big Apple and the Super Bowl.
