SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A suspect in custody Friday for allegedly kidnapping a 7-year-old girl and stuffing her in his trunk is a registered sex offender who has attacked before.

It’s the exact scenario the mother of the suspect’s first victim says should never have happened.

Christy says Cedric Holland should still be in prison for the horrible things he did to her daughter when she was only 5 years old.

Memories of what Holland did are flooding to Christy’s daughter, who we’ll call Annie.

“I was crying, I wanted him to be gone. He needs to be off the face of this Earth,” Annie said. “Almost my entire year of being 5 has been blocked out of my mind.”

The man of her nightmares is now accused of snatching a 7-year-old girl walking with her mom in south Sacramento, and throwing her in his trunk. The little girl managed to get the trunk open and jump out of the moving car to safety.

“If he had been serving 25, he wouldn’t have had access to this little girl,” Christy said.

Holland was charged in 2006 with multiple counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child.

“Prosecutors at the time told me since he was an adult when he would be looking at 25 years,” Christy said.

But to the shock of her and her daughter, Holland pleaded no contest and served six years. Christy says he was sentenced as a juvenile, not an adult, allowed back on the streets far earlier.

“If this little girl didn’t get out of the trunk of that car, he may not have allowed her to make a statement like my daughter was able to,” she said. “That little girl may never have had a voice to tell what happened to her.”

But she escaped, and now Holland is back behind bars.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Pamela Aguilar says her 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter discovered something too racy for their young eyes in the mail.

She says she didn’t think anything of the white envelope from Power Labs in Newhall, California, that was addressed to her husband. The outside read “Natural science has finally solved your biggest problems.”

But nothing hinted at the naughty pictures inside.

It turns out that Power Up is a male supplement company. Pamela insists she and her husband never ordered anything that would put them on the company’s mailing list.

When she called Power Up, a customer service rep took her off the mailing list, but couldn’t explain how she got on it.

“I said, how would you feel if you had young children that opened up this?” Pamela said.

Pamela says from now on, no one’s opening up the mail in her home, except for Mom and Dad.

“I’m just horrified that this could be something that could be brought into our home,” she said.

A representative at Power Labs told us a supervisor would call us back tonight. We’re still waiting for that call.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A conservative group is calling for parents to keep their children home from school on a day commemorating the first openly gay lawmaker.

Savecalifornia.com, a site affiliated with the Campaign for Children and Families, is running an ad in Sacramento and Los Angeles calling for a boycott of Harvey Milk Day.

In 2009, California lawmakers recognized May 22 in his honor. To counter that, the group is running 60-second radio ads encouraging parents to keep their children home from school.

“Children belong to the parents, not to the state, and to force a sexual agenda and a political agenda upon children, that’s highly inappropriate,” said spokesman Randy Thomasson.

Parents who talked to CBS13 couldn’t disagree more with what the group is proposing.

“I think that’s ridiculous,” said Jennifer Postlethwaite. “I would be happy if my daughter would learn about Harvey Milk at school.”

I’m surprised that is even an issue to be honest at this day and age,” said Matt Bolton. “It really is rather shocking.”

Thomasson said parents should have the final say about what their children learn.

“The only thing parents can do is because this is done behind their backs is to keep their kids home from this sexual indoctrination,” he said.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Kings deal is nearly complete. So what does that mean?

THE DEAL

Word of the $535 million deal sending the Sacramento Kings from the Maloofs to a group led by Vivek Ranadive came out Thursday night.

The NBA is expected to officially approve the sale next week.

The deal followed a 22-8 vote this week by the NBA’s Board of Governors rejecting a move to Seattle, which was sought by a group led by Seattle investor Chris Hansen. That vote essentially killed that deal.

THE MAYOR

Mayor Kevin Johnson celebrated the news of the Ranadive group and the Maloofs reaching a deal Friday at City Hall this morning.

“Let me say this Sacramento, this was our playoffs,” he said.

Fans packed the room, sporting Kings jerseys and the color purple. Many said they were excited about the new arena and can’t wait to fill it.

“I’m just so excited as a community,” Johnson said. “We did what people said we couldn’t do.”

This deal has been Kevin Johnson’s focus for the past two years, and with it finished, he’s ready for the city to reap the benefits.

“This was such a defining moment for our community. This is transformative,” he said. “This community we know and love will never be the same.”

THE MALOOFS

While there has been a lot of animosity toward the Maloofs in recent years, Johnson made a point to thank the Maloof family for selling to Vivek Ranadive.

“Let’s be a community with a long memory that remembers those good days and good things,” he said. “They did not have to accept a backup offer and they did.”

THE ARENA

The timeline for getting a new downtown arena built was updated on Friday. The goal now is to break ground in October 2014 with a projected opening in October 2016.

A rally will be held on Wednesday in Cesar Chavez Park, headlined by the Sacramento band Cake.

MODESTO (CBS13) — Investigators say 17 bodies were removed from a Modesto funeral home because those remains may have been mishandled.

One look at McGuire’s Funeral and Cremation/Second-Hand Store had neighbors sensing something was wrong.

Investigators pulled the bodies out of the store after hearing from family members of deceased that it was taking too long to get their loved one’s remains.

It turns out the county had revoked the funeral home’s permits for burial or cremation earlier this month.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the funeral home and its owner for possible criminal wrongdoing.

CBS13’s Steve Large called the number listed for the funeral home director. The person who answered hung up on him.

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) —  JustFlowers.com advertises on its website it’s accredited with the Better Business Bureau with an “A” rating. It helped convince Mindy Linford to order a Mother’s Day bouquet from their website for her mom in Pollock Pines. She ordered them the Tuesday before the holiday asking for a Friday delivery. The flowers never arrived.

“I’m really upset because they took my money,” Linford said.

She estimates calling fifty times trying to find out why, but says she struggled to get an answer.

“When they find out you’re not placing an order, they either hang up or place you on hold and then hang up on you,” Linford said.

Other complaints on Just Flowers Facebook page read, “I discovered that she had not received her flowers.” and “ruined my mother’s day and $60 down the drain too.”

Just Flowers is accredited out of the Los Angeles chapter, however The National office of the Better Business Bureau says none of the businesses in the Greater Los Angeles area have any letter ratings right now. The National BBB expelled the L.A. chapter in March for “recurrent noncompliance with BBB standards” after it reportedly accredited companies without checking their credentials.

Gary Almond of the Northeastern California Better Business Bureau calls what happened in Los Angeles troubling. He says it could be September before all 15-thousand businesses in Greater Los Angeles are reevaluated. In the meantime, businesses in the region accredited prior to the chapter being expelled will remain accredited. When asked if we can trust accreditations out of Greater L.A., Almond responded, “I wouldn’t make that blanket statement that you cannot trust accreditations, because you’d have to treat that case individually.”

Just Flowers told us in a statement, “Mother’s Day is the busiest time of the year for florists and we do our best to make sure every order is delivered. But no complaint is too small, and every customer is important to us.”

The company refunded Mindy and said they’d send her mother a bouquet of flowers for free with an apology. Mindy says she won’t order flowers online again.

“I would say order from a local florist.”
