THE COUNCIL Pitch First Fundraiser for NonprofitsThe Council – A local all male organization aiming to help local charities on a quarterly basis was on April 26th at House Kitchen and Bar,downtown Sacramento. The concept: The Council is comprised of 100 men who agree to each donate $100 at four gatherings a year. At each gathering, the men will hear pitches from three local non-profits. At the end of the pitches, the men will vote by silent ballot for whichever non-profit they felt gave the best presentation. Whichever non-profit receives the most votes will walk away with $10,000 for its organization. Checks will be made out by each individual on-site and will be given directly to the charity. Each $100 donation is tax deductible. Founding members; Dave Harmon, Patrick Harbison, Greg Wellman, David Sobon, Cory Harris, Tim Harris and Shelby Elias Networking: The Council is envisioned to be a wonderful opportunity from men across various professional sectors to network and mingle. The goal is to provide long-term value to deserving causes - but also to have fun and create a socially and professionally viable atmosphere as well.
Weave Fundraiser WALK A MILE IN HER SHOESOn April 23, 944 men took to the streets in high heels and literally "walked a mile in her shoes" to raise awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their efforts raised more than $312,000 to support WEAVE's 24/7 crisis intervention services for survivors in our community with 100% of the funds raises used for local services. WEAVE's Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is the largest men's walk against gender based violence in the world. The community awareness campaign, which invites businesses and business leaders to Light Up, Decorate & Donate, is both a fundraiser for the Komen Sacramento Valley affiliate and a community awareness campaign created to remind area residents and businesses about the upcoming Race for the Cure.
