Cardinals 2, Pirates 1. Michael Wacha put himself on the national radar with a one-hitter to keep the Cardinals alive. Pedro Alvarez's home run proved to be the lone Pittsburgh hit of the game. Red Sox 4, Rays 5. Alex Cobb performed well enough to exit the game with a lead. But Fernando Rodney allowed the game-tying run in the ninth. It took Jose Lobaton's walkoff home run against Koji Uehara for the Rays to secure their first victory of the series. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Braves 3, Dodgers 4. Juan Uribe's two-run homer in the eighth inning against Dan Carpenter swung the score in favor of the Dodgers. Los Angeles started Clayton Kershaw on short rest to ensure the series would end early. The plan worked, and the Dodgers advanced to the NLCS. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

Athletics 6, Tigers 8. A wild game that saw the two teams combine for eight runs over the final three frames. Max Scherzer's relief work helped seal the deal for the Tigers, who forced a Game Five. (Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Red Sox 3, Rays 1. The Rays went to their bullpen early and often, and almost pulled it out. Alas, a few costly mistakes allowed Boston to regain the lead late. Jake Peavy and the Boston bullpen shut down Tampa Bay's lineup. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Pirates 1, Cardinals 6. Adam Wainwright spun another gem and the Cardinals advanced to the NLCS. It's worth noting Gerrit Cole outpitched his line and, were this the regular season, probably would've pitched beyond the fifth inning. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Tigers 3, Athletics 0. It was Justin Verlander's turn to come up big in an elimination game. The former MVP threw eight shutout innings while fanning 10 and allowing two hits. Oakland made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough to prevent Detroit from advancing to the ALCS. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

Dodgers 2, Cardinals 3. Carlos Beltran came up big, again, not only throwing out the potential go-ahead run at the plate, but bringing in the winning run later on. Beltran also drove in two other runs throughout the game, further building upon his postseason reputation. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Dodgers 0, Cardinals 1. Michael Wacha added to his postseason reputation with another good start. The righty out-dueled Clayton Kershaw, even if he allowed more than one run this time. Jon Jay delivered the game's only run on a fifth-inning sac fly, which plated David Freese. The Cardinals extended their winning streak to four games. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Tigers 1, Red Sox 0. Anibal Sanchez left the game with a no-hitter in tact, and the Tigers bullpen carried it into the ninth. It wasn't to be, however, as Daniel Nava tallied a single with one out in the ninth. The Red Sox' rally fell short, pushing Detroit's winning streak to three games. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

Tigers 5, Red Sox 6. This one appeared all over entering the eighth inning. But the Red Sox rallied, capped by a David Ortiz grand slam, and tied the game entering the ninth. A sloppy defensive inning allowed Jarrod Saltalamacchia to plate the winning run and tie the series. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)
