Cell Phones Banned On The Course At U.S. Open In San Francisco

With practice rounds underway at the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, the United States Golf Association is banning cellphones on the course for the thousands of spectators in attendance.

Brown Signs Bill Banning Cell Phones In Prisons

Thousands of prisoners, including Charles Manson, have been found with cellphones in California prisons, but it’s now illegal for prison employees and others to smuggle the mobile devices to state inmates, after Gov. Jerry Brown announced Thursday that he had signed a bill making it a misdemeanor.

Bill Increases Fines For Use Of Phone While Driving

Nearly three years after California made it illegal to use a hand-held cell phone while driving, the state Senate on Monday approved a bill that would increase fines for texting or using a hand-held cell phone while driving.

Gov. Brown Orders 48K State Cell Phones To Be Turned In

As part of deep state spending cuts, Gov. Jerry Brown has ordered state agency department heads to collect and turn in 48,000 government-paid cell phones by June 1, 2011.
