The number of local inmates freed early in one month increased from about 10,200 in September 2011, just before the change in state law, to more than 14,000 in June 2014, the most recent available date. The June 2014 release rate was slightly higher than previously reported.

More California Sex Offenders Go Missing Under Prison Realignment

The number of paroled sex offenders who are fugitives in California is 15 percent higher today than before Gov. Jerry Brown’s sweeping law enforcement realignment law took effect 17 months ago, according to figures released Wednesday by the state corrections department.
