5 Sexy Halloween Costumes For Less Than $20

Halloween is a great opportunity to be someone else for a day, whether you wish to be funny, silly, scary or alluring. Go into any large Sacramento retailer and you're bound to find ready-made plastic costumes of every sort, but putting a unique and sexy one together yourself can be a lot more fun and definitely less expensive. Get creative, shop in the right places and you won't be spooked about looking sultry on Halloween.

Sometimes it is all about the accessories. Find the right pieces and what you already have in your closet can suddenly become a very spicy surprise. If you want to look like a dancer, pair a leotard with a rented top hat ($10) and bow tie ($1) from Decades. The shop also rents out gorgeous, colorful, handmade feather masks for $10 to $20; add a short dress or skirt and you are a sexy Mardi Gras queen. Beautiful Hollywood-quality vintage rhinestone jewelry pieces rent for $5 to $10 each. Even simpler, add a boned bustier ($10 rental) to virtually any outfit and the room temperature is guaranteed to rise.

www.sspca.orgIf you want a big Halloween kiss, then follow that rule and keep it simple. A plain bit of white linen from the Sacramento SPCA thrift store ($4-$8) can open up a world of titillating ideas. Cut a few holes for your eyes and mouth (then line the opening with lipstick or red marker if you wish) and write "HOT" in big letters on the front. Throw it over your head, pair it with high heels and stockings and there you are, someone who is really "hot sheet."

Buy a men's checkered cowboy shirt at Eco Thrift ($2-$4) and tie the tails off at your waistline. Put on your snuggest pair of jeans or shorts and add a kerchief ($1) and cowboy hat ($3-$10 at Eco Thrift or Thrift Town). You'll be ready to rope and ride in no time at all.

www.sacramentohalloweencostumes.comIf you are ready to indulge your inner alien on Halloween, there is no reason to settle for an expensive and run-of-the-mill "Star Trek" suit or boring natural skin color. Get green water-soluble body make-up ($6.95) from Broadway Costumes and coat your skin with it. It dries quickly, is easy to remove and doesn't look at all like paint; your skin actually glows through the color. Kermit may claim that it isn't easy being green, but you will look like an alien for sure with sexy clothes from your closet (or thrift store) and that green aura.
