Sacramento is blessed to have some of the best barbecue (BBQ, Bar-B-Q, Barbeque) in the west. Some swear the only way to cook it over over an open flame, or hot coals, or by a combination of heat and smoke. Still some argue that the preparation of the ingredients is the key; wet rub versus dry rub – spicy or not too much. But it all comes down to the taste. Here are some restaurants that do BBQ right.

I agree; Big Al’s BBQ has a very good product. I really like the Western style atmosphere. It seems at least half the customers are cowboys.

Do yourself a favor… try the brisket at the BBQ place on Otto Circle, off (I think) 48th St. in south Sac. Incredible! Now if only they’d do some kind of a Groupon or coupon deal.

Sandra Dee’s was the worst! they had horrible customer service! It was one lie after another. We didnt even stay for the order, the service was so bad we left after being seated and disregarded by the waitress. We go there at 7:30, and wasn’t even seated till it was 9. As if that wasn’t bad enough, we were told a 30 minute wait. After countless customers leaving, which would’ve given plenty of room for four adults and 2 kids. Sandra told us 45 minutes into the wait that they had a table ready but was waiting for another table to open up. I would’ve been fine but people who were there 30 minutes after us were seated way before us. It just goes on and on. We ere finally seated in a corner and there were plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. I will never go back! Like before we didnt stay to order, even if it was the best BBQ in the world this type of service was the worst I’d ever experienced. DO NOT GO THERE.

Texas West on Fulton has never been good. I’ve given the place four times to prove themselves but the BBQ has never been good. Twice my family was given undercooked ribs, and twice the sliced tri-tip has been so dry not even the sauce could help it. My coworkers call it average to so-so food, and will only order a hamburger or the pulled pork soaked in sauce. How it comes up number one I don’t know. Two of my visits have been during lunch on a weekday and the other two were on the weekend, early Sunday afternoon. Please, if I am missing something, let me know. The portions were generous but the food is not smoked correctly (either over or under done). I’ve had much better at other places and I’ve made better with my own smoker.
