The arrival of fall doesn’t only signal a beautiful shift in the landscape. It also signals a change in many of the foods we eat as autumn-inspired menus and drinks make their way onto menus throughout the city. And nothing completes a hearty meal better than a fall-focused dessert like pecan or pumpkin pie. If you are looking for a spot to enjoy some autumn desserts, check out these five restaurants.

Vanilla Bean Gourmet
1809 S St.
Sacramento, CA 95811
Fall flavors and cupcakes make the perfect combination. Vanilla Bean Gourmet doesn’t just offer some autumn flavors, it steps things up a notch by making some of the best holiday and seasonally designed cupcakes. Halloween brings out the real creativity with haunted mansions, skulls, ghosts and more. Also be sure to try Vanilla Bean Gourmet’s regular pumpkin pie cupcake — pumpkin pie cake with freshly ground cinnamon, cloves and ginger, all topped with cream cheese frosting.
Apple Hill Growers
No mention of autumn desserts would be complete without a trip to the Apple Hill region. Fall is the busy season when farmers and shops offer everything and anything you can imagine made with apples. Look for pies, pastries, cakes and more featuring some of the region’s best apples. And be sure to save room for some apple cider to compliment your dessert. You won’t want to miss out on the holiday pie preview taking place November 10th at Apple Pantry Farm. Click here for a full list of events in the area.

The Popcorn Store
9679 E. Stockton Blvd.
Elk Grove, CA 95624
Formerly known as Vic’s Corn Popper, The Popcorn Store is an unexpected place to find a sweet bit of fall. Flavored popcorns are quite popular and here you can sample a few flavors that capture the essence of autumn. Try the caramel apple that combines the tartness of apples with the sweetness of buttery caramel, mixed with the sweet crunch of cashews. The Popcorn Store also offers flavors like toffee nut which combines butter-sweet toffee heaped with nuts or buttery caramel with cashews, featuring the same buttery caramel mixed with the sweet crunch of cashews.
Gunther’s Ice Cream
2801 Franklin Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95818
Gunther’s Ice Cream is a Sacramento institution dating back to 1940 when it was opened by Herman “Pop” Gunther and his wife, Iva. They owned the shop until 1968 when it was sold to Carl Buchell. The current owner, Rick Klopp, was employed at Gunther’s by Buchell, became manager and bought the business from him in 1974. The store retains much of the initial charm from its earlier days and still offers the same old-fashioned ice cream the Gunthers first started. Gunther’s provides a number of awesome flavors on a daily basis but look for seasonal options like pumpkin, egg nog, black licorice, spumoni and more.
