Best Easter Events For Kids In Sacramento

Most of us grew up with a variety of traditions, and the Easter egg hunt was a typical annual event. Things have changed a little since we were children as now there are other events that can be enjoyed. While we have the traditional eggsstravaganzas at Fairytale Town and Elk Grove Park, there are also opportunities to dress up the family dog or learn to bake Easter bread. This list covers a number of events and you are sure to find one for your children to enjoy, no matter their age.

For an egg-citing weekend, featuring egg hunts, photos with Peter cottontail, prizes and hands-on activities, come to Fairytale Town. Egg hunts will be held daily at 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. promptly. The Town Troopers from Fairytale Town will also be on hand performing in the Children's Theater. Show times are 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. It is recommended that you arrive early to allow ample time for parking and entry into Fairytale Town. Dates are still pending. The Cosumnes Community Service Department (CSD) Parks and Recreation department is celebrating spring with the annual Spring EGGstravaganza on Saturday, April 19 in Elk Grove Park. Children can enjoy carnival games, face painting, an egg scramble, the petting zoo, ladybug releases, inflatables, family entertainment and appearances from the Easter Bunny. There is a minimal fee and food is available for purchase.

Before you head over to the EGGstravaganza on the other side of the park, visit the Pavilion at Elk Grove Park and join the Easter Bunny for a pancake breakfast. You'll want to register early because seating is limited. This event is co-sponsored by the pride of Laguna Creek Lions Club. The cost is $1 for children two and under. All others are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

For the children who want to enjoy Easter with their dog, Wag Hotels' Fifth Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs is just the ticket. There will be finger foods and local vendors for the people while the dogs sniff out bags filled with tasty treats and valuable prizes. There will also be photos taken with the Easter Bunny. The Sacramento Front Street Animal Shelter will benefit from the raffle that will finish out the exciting family event. All animals are encouraged to wear Easter attire.

For the older child who doesn't like to collect eggs, Davis Food Co-Op has a class called "Baking Around the World Easter Breads." This class promises a tour through Europe, teaching on Easter breads that are rich with eggs, citrus zest and dried fruits. Children will be visiting the "English Hot Cross Buns," the "Polish Babka" as well as many more. Visit the website for a registration form.
