Golfers have been enjoying this gem, the first golf course in Sacramento, since 1924. Sign up for group or private instruction, which are available to all ages of aspiring golfers. Here is a really awesome deal. For $5, seven days a week, play as many holes as you can during the last hour of open time on the course. Walk and golf till the sun sets. That's in addition to the regular hours, great pro shop and a spectacular  and challenging course for everyone.

Jack Fleming designed this beauty in 1957. At that time, it was all part of the sprawling Mather Air Force Base. The 18 holes here will test your skills, including your long ball status. First up is a fine par-4, great for the long ball and ending in a truly tuned up green. Since each hole will require your best, a trip to the pro shop may be in the cards, as well as lessons and tournaments. The Navigator Cafe will take care of you foodie needs. Meet your buddies here and enjoy an August day hitting your best on a true part of Air Force history.

Take a short drive over the Yolo Causeway and treat yourself to a day on the links in Davis, a spectacular setting for 18 holes. The course has a driving range, putting greens and is home to many hard-fought tournaments. You need to line up your shots carefully — water features will greet you on 15 of those 18 holes, which simply adds to the joy of the day.
