Best Nightlife Spots For The Under 21 Crowd In Sacramento

The city's most sophisticated, upscale clubs aren't exclusive to the over 21 crowd. In fact, some of Sacramento's best nightlife spots cater to the 18 and up group well into the night. There's something for everyone in Sacramento's after-dark venues; you just have to venture out, head downtown and check them out.

One of Sacramento's true music venues, Ace of Spades has a packed calendar of events and is standing-room-only many nights. Known as a premier live music venue in the city, Ace of Spades feels intimate, yet packs in up to 900 people. Club-goers of all ages are welcome to the live shows, and there are three full bars for the over 21 crowd or those looking to hydrate with some water or soda. Head upstairs for a better view of the stage or tuck away into one of the 18 and up sections to grab a bite and get away from the fray for a minute. Ace of Spades has a dark vibe with a great stage and a convenient downtown location with street parking and restaurants nearby.

Although the name might imply otherwise, Club 21 does allow the 18 and up crowd on certain nights. Every week, Club 21 re-invents itself with many different types of events all under one roof. This intimate mid-size club has a capacity of 250 people and can be found in mid-town Sacramento. Sundays and Wednesdays it's Bojangles, an 18 and over gay dance club. Every first Saturday, Club 21 morphs into Purr, an all-ladies night in conjunction with Sacramento PRIDE. For something completely different, show up on Tuesdays for swing classes and Latin night every Friday. Regardless of the venue, the lighting is brilliant and the sound is bumpin'. Club 21's parties are legendary, and 18 and over club-goers keep coming back.

Located in Old Sacramento, Laughs Unlimited is an all-ages night spot with something for everyone. Every Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the club hosts a concert series with local bands and live music. If you're over 17, stay for the comedy set after the concert. Tuesday nights, for the truly brave, step up to the Open Mic Showcase to exorcise your inner Jerry Seinfeld. Tuesday's cover is only $5. Show up on no-cover Wednesday's and channel Celin Dion or Steven Tyler on the karaoke stage from 8 p.m. to midnight. Your Over 21 friends will enjoy drink specials all night. Whether you're there to rock out to local bands, try your hand at your own brand of comedy, sing a little or laugh a lot, Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club is a great way to spend a night on the town in Sacramento.

This Arden Way hot spot always draws a crowd. The Tropicana Club is one of Sacramento's hottest Latin clubs for the 18 and over party-goer. On Party Rock Friday's, minors get in for $10 until 10 p.m.  D.J. Papi Rock and D.J. Marks play Top 40, Latin house music, hip hop, cumbia, merengue and techno. Enjoy the vibe on two high-energy, packed dance floors. Most nights, there's local, energetic live bands at the Tropicana, featuring contemporary local Mexican-influenced music.

If you're looking for less of a nightclub vibe and more of a chill place to hang out with friends, watch the game and enjoy some good eats, Bisla's is your spot. College night (Sacramento's largest, according to the Bisla's owners) occurs weekly at this college sports bar on Tuesday nights. Beginning at 9 p.m., the 18 and up crowd is welcome to pile in for $5 cover ($10 after 10 p.m.) and order a pizza or some delicious wings, kick back with friends, enjoy the hookah, or chill on the outdoor patio.
