Nevada City in autumn is a very colorful experience. The trees up here put on quite a show. The Deer Creek Inn is sitting on the banks of Deer Creek, and it is beyond beautiful. The Inn, a great B&B, makes a fine base for exploring Nevada City and all of the colorful fall trails around the area. Ask the B&B hosts where it is the best, and head on out. Take your time waking up in the morning and then enjoy a tasty breakfast before you and your camera go out to check out what autumn has in store for you.

Fall in Tahoe, in a log cabin B&B, surrounded by tall pines and firs and that really big lake to relax next to, may be a very good version of paradise. This is the off season in Tahoe, and things are much more laid back and quiet after the summer rush. The aspens around this part of Tahoe will dazzle you with golds and yellows. The sound they make in a breeze is truly magnificent. Spending some time at the Fireside just adds to the pleasure. Ride one of the bikes along the bike path, or launch one of the kayaks into the lake. Do this after your very delicious continental breakfast. Most of all, just enjoy yourself, which is really easy to do here.

Hope Valley in fall is perhaps one of the most spectacular and colorful experiences you can choose. The aspens in Hope Valley are legendary, with colors that will cause you to stop and take a deep breath. The place where it all starts is Sorensen’s Resort. Literally, the aspens here light off before everything else, and they do so in a spectacular manner. The cabins at Sorensen’s will simply make the entire experience remarkably more wonderful. Run by John and Patti Brissenden, it just doesn’t get any better. Trails to hike, nearby high mountain lakes and the stunning grandeur of Hope Valley in autumn are a must see. Sorensen’s is absolutely the best place for home base in this part of the Sierra.
