Party-goers on St. Pat’s Day often wear the color green on the big day, a tradition which may have more than one origin. Some believe it is simply recognition of the island, also known as the Emerald Isle. A more folkloric reason revolves around mythical creatures called leprechauns, known to give a strong pinch to anyone they came across. To avoid this, people could supposedly become invisible by wearing green. Going to Thrift Town is an excellent way to avoid those pinches, without parting with all of the green paper in your wallet. Shoppers can get gently-used green clothing, hats and other accessories at extreme discounts, along with decorations, costumes and jewelry made specifically for St. Patrick’s Day.

Indulge your inner leprechaun with red hair, hat, knickers, a green jacket with tails and a sequined gold bow tie. Or don a kilt and head out to the nearest pub for a pint o’ green beer.
