Beautiful art doesn't have to bust the budget. Sacramento has a great selection of shops and galleries where you can purchase quality art for less than $100. At a time when big-box stores are full of manufactured products and impersonal staff, it is nice to know Sacramento has a wide variety of locally owned shops that feature local artists and artisans. Artworks 21 is a funky little shop located in Midtown featuring a dazzling display of Mexican folk art. Much of the art is handmade by the owner, who is welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. He supports local art and artists, but he also brings back much of the artwork from struggling artists in Mexico. The shop carries handmade jewelry, handbags, hand-painted tiles and wooden trays, wall art, statues, home decor and handcrafted altar boxes. There is a wide range of prices with most of the items under $100. A few favorites include the $3 beaded coin purses, the $85 painted trays and the color wall prints for $48.
