Best Places To Cut Your Own Christmas Tree In The Sacramento Area

This is the time of year to make memories with the family. Cutting down your Christmas tree with your children is a memory as well as a tradition to carry forward to the next generation. Each of the tree farms offer a variety of things besides the trees. Many carry wreaths and handmade ornaments, and most have baked goods. Some of these are a ways from Sacramento, but plan a day of it with games in the car for the children and a picnic lunch.

Davis Ranch offers choose-and-cut Christmas trees. The varieties available include Douglas Fir, Incense Cedar, Monterey Pine and Sierra Redwood. Bambi Christmas Trees bring in Noble Fir and Silver Tip pre-cut from Oregon. The trees will be available the day after Thanksgiving through December 24. Throughout the year, Davis Ranch has other festivals and it has a volunteer program where the volunteers pick produce to be sent to the local Food Banks in the Sacramento area. Hours vary so call for details.

Billy's will begin selling choose-and-cut trees the day after Thanksgiving. The farm is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Billy's is a certified Organic Christmas Tree, family-owned business. It carries Leyland, Monterey and Arizona Cypress, Golden Cedars and Sierra Redwoods. In the Pine family, it has Aleppo, Monterey, Scotch and Bishop. Billy's offers a delivery service, and has hayrides, wreaths and handmade ornaments. Star's Country Kitchen offers popcorn, kettle corn, hot cocoa, beef and other goodies.

Opening the day after Thanksgiving, Forest Creek is open seven days a week, however, you cannot get any choose-and-cut trees after 5 p.m., so plan accordingly. Forest Creek is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Forest Creek offers cut-your-own and pre-cut trees. It has netting for the trees for easier traveling. You will also find a large assortment of wreaths. Children are given free candy canes when they visit.

Opening the day after Thanksgiving, Deer Park Ranch offers tree netting, coffee, apple juice, candy canes and cookies to its visitors. Harris Tree Farm has wreaths and ornaments as well as the choose-and-cut Christmas trees. The farm carries Pine Cedar, Silver Tip and White, Douglas and Grand Firs. Irene's Kitchen has apple pie, turnovers and hot apple cider. Santa is also out and about this time of year. The Harris Farm also has a large lawn area, an apple orchard and forest areas for events such as weddings or family reunions. Irene's Kitchen has tamales at this time of year, as well as pies and turnovers made with fruit that is in season. She also has a variety of jams and butters to chose from.
