December is the time of year when tradition comes heavily into play with music, good home cooking, baking, decorated trees and gifts. The air is crisp and you can smell the pine of the trees everywhere you go. You hear the Christmas melodies from every store front, but Christmas caroling in Sacramento can also be found in a variety of places throughout the month of December. The Capitol even has daily music if you can't find enough sing-alongs elsewhere. Plan ahead and you can show your family a great time in December, combining tradition with family fun.

The annual Children's Holiday Concert at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church is being presented by the Sacramento Master Singers on December 14 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to sing along with the familiar songs for young and old. There will be a delegation from the North Pole to assist in presenting the family-oriented interactive program. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

December 1 through 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be holiday music events at the California State Capitol Museum. According to the spokesperson, various groups will be coming in every day to perform holiday music in the first floor rotunda. Visitors are encouraged to sing along. Holiday favorites, Christmas medleys and sing-along favorites will be featured as the Roseville Community Concert Band presents the annual Christmas concert. The concert will be held downtown in the heart of Roseville at the Roseville Theatre on December 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is free parking on Vernon Street, behind the theatre, and a free parking garage within walking distance near Washington Boulevard on Vernon Street.

On Saturday, December 14 at 8 p.m., the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra will be performing at Memorial Auditorium. This is a Sacramento tradition. The audience sing-along will guarantee you enjoy this evening of familiar holiday songs. The guest chorus will be the Sacramento Children's Chorus, directed by Lynn Stevens. The guest artist will be Tevye Ditter. Don't miss out on this night of Christmas merriment, with the holiday music and the candlelit procession. Admission will be $30-$45 with student and child discounts available with a current ID.

Admission is free to this lovely Christmas play that covers salvation, reconciliation and homelessness. In between the sets of the play, there will be sing-alongs for the audience to join in on, as well as songs sung by the actors. The participants of the play range in age from six up to 50 plus.
