John Sutter built this fort and was instrumental in rescuing the infamous Donner Party. Sutter's Fort has events throughout the year, or you can walk through it on your own whenever if you prefer. The fort can be rented for events of 25 or more guests. Sutter's Fort also has a restricted period available for weddings. Stand next to the cannon for a special family photo.

The Railroad Museum has numerous places to take photos. You can stand next to one of the locomotives near the river, inside one of the dining cars or by the exhibits. It hosts events throughout the year, including the Polar Express at Christmas time. The museum also has a train that you can hop on for a ride. Entry to the Governor's Mansion is by guided tour only. The mansion is currently undergoing renovation, so it is important to call for times available for the tour. The garden at the mansion would be a beautiful place for a family photo. President Ronald Reagan lived here when he was the governor of California, before becoming president. Taking a family photo in the mansion or on the grounds would be a treasured photo-op.

One of the most beautiful places in the museum is the Capitol Rotunda; it is considered to be the heart of the capitol. To see the majesty of this building, you only need to step inside the door and look up. A scenic place on the grounds is the Trout Pond near the monument honoring the veterans of the Spanish American War. Each spring the California Department of Fish and Game stocks the pond with Rainbow Trout. Each fall, they are released to complete their lifecycle.
