www.cityofsacramento.orgHolidays when children are not in school gives any family an excuse to plan a picnic in the park. Sacramento has numerous parks throughout the area, so there is sure to be one near your neighborhood. Grab some hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings and invite the family, friends and/or neighbors to join in. Take along ball, bat and glove or other types of outdoor games. Don’t forget the camera or smartphone to take photos, because the memories made on holidays are priceless.

Chalk-It-Up is a nonprofit created to benefit arts education and activities for children. Funds are raised annually at the Labor Day Weekend celebration. Artists volunteer their chalk creations on behalf of the sponsors in the Sponsored Squares. The Community Squares are open to the public to create their own art masterpieces. They do request children be accompanied by an adult. There is entertainment daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. of various local bands, musicians and performers. All children’s activities during the festival are free. Bring out your children and let their creative juices flow as they draw their dreams on the downtown sidewalks.
