Best Upcoming Children's Shows In Sacramento

Sacramento is home to a number of live theater events, including those geared towards a younger audience. It might even surprise you to learn that the city is home to venues entirely dedicated to children's theater productions. Whether it's puppets, Broadway classics or musicals, Sacramento is home to a number of options to get your kids immersed in the live theater scene from an early age.

If you are looking for performances, here is a look at some of the best upcoming children's shows in Sacramento.

If your children have not experienced "a spoonful of sugar" and the magic of a charming nanny and the Banks family, now is your chance. This Disney classic will delight kids of all ages -- including the grown-up ones. Put on by Music Circus, the performance of "Mary Poppins" follows another successful Disney show -- "The Little Mermaid" back in 2012. Music Circus is a unique experience and includes some of the most talented actors in the industry, including stars from touring Broadway shows, TV and film. Tickets range from $35-$65 and there are discounts available for some sections for kids ages 4-12. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. nightly with afternoon shows also on July 10, 12 and 13.

Another Disney classic on stage in the Sacramento area is "The Jungle Book," taking place in July at Folsom Lake College. Put on by El Dorado Musical Theatre, this promises to be a great show with all of the movie's classic songs featured in this live-theater adaptation. El Dorado Musical Theatre has been entertaining area families since 2001 when the first performance of "The Frog Prince" took place. The founders have lengthy careers in teaching performing arts within schools and ultimately combined talents when they both moved to El Dorado. A welcome addition for the community, El Dorado Musical Theatre recruits local talent for all performances.

The Puppet Arts Theatre Company is putting on the fairy tale production of "Three Billy Goats Gruff" this August at Fairytale Town. Unfamiliar with the classic tale? Three goats set out to outwit a pesky troll to cross the bridge and enjoy the neighboring field of green grass. The cute puppet production is sure to delight both kids and parents alike. Note the 12:30 p.m. performance on August 2 will be a sign language interpreted presentation.

Head to the Mother Goose Stage at Fairytale Town and check out the special performance by the Fairytale Town Troupers. The family-friendly comedy will feature beautiful princesses, fun surprises, music, magic and even some interactive fun. Guests get to help select the winning princess and then you can dance with your favorite princesses on stage.

Emmy-nominated Rachel Coleman, host of "Signing Time," will be performing in Roseville this fall. "Signing Time" is the PBS show that first introduced American Sign Language (ASL) to kids across America. The hit show has helped kids to learn how to communicate using ASL -- including those who are not deaf. Research has shown that even kids who are not deaf are seeing accelerated language and reading development through the use of sign language techniques that include sign language, written words, song and video modeling.
