Sacramento has a number of wonderful opportunities for animal lovers to volunteer and enjoy. Some have prerequisites, while others are simple items you can do when you have 15 minutes to spare. Read on to see where you fit into the animal lover’s volunteer opportunities.

Sacramento RSVP, has at the time of this writing, 33 openings for animal lovers in a variety of places. Some of the volunteer positions need specific training, like the pavers or the plumbing positions. Other positions are more generic and are looking for those who want to help with everyday chores, like the needs of the animal rescue. However, Sacramento RSVP does have a very special criterion: the minimum age of 55 is a legal funding requirement for RSVP volunteers.

Readers of the Sacramento Magazine have voted the Sacramento SPCA (SSPCA) the “Best Place to Volunteer.” The SSPCA provides training for its volunteers to ensure that each one understands the animal behavior, wants and needs. Volunteers are considered to be at the heart of improving the lives of each of these animals. All volunteers are required to start with orientation, which is held once a month at the SSPCA in Gracie’s Adoption Center. Volunteer applications can be downloaded from the website.

Animal Welfare Opportunities with Volunteer Guide

For unconventional volunteer and conservation opportunities that animal lovers can do whenever they have spare time, volunteerguide.com can help. Animal activist Katherine Noyes explains on the website how there are opportunities for animal lovers that can take as little as 15 minutes, if that is all you can spare. Of course, if you have a week of vacation that you’d like to spend with the animals, it would also be happily accepted. The volunteer suggestions are online, with other links to outside sources where needed including building birdhouses for the North American Bluebird and even rescuing exotic, large cats.
