Q: Hi Barbara. Welcome to Defend Your Ride Sacramento. What can you tell us about your car? How long have you owned it?
A: I’ve had it for about five years. I went online and checked almost daily. My friend had one and my husband Tim used to have one and I’ve always liked them. I thought they were cute cars.
Q: Do you have any fond memories of the drive-in movies?
A: I loved to go to them when I was a kid, but I haven’t been in so many years. My mom would feed us, give us a bath, put us in our jammies and off we’d go for the night. It was an inexpensive way for my parents to see a movie too.
Q: When was the last time you saw a drive-in movie?
A: We saw “E.T.” in Redwood City, so it was about 1983-ish?
Q: What is your car’s main use?
A: Right now because I’m unemployed, it’s errands. But when I become employed, it will be back and forth for work.
Q: What’s your favorite day trip from home?
A: Probably going to a casino. Thunder Valley. I was winning and then I got onto a losing streak, so I stopped going.
Q: What’s the longest car ride you’ve been on?
A: From Wisconsin to California. Imagine an 18-month-old in the backseat of the car for three days. It was pretty tough. He wasn’t so bad during the day, but at night he wanted to do something because he was bored and he slept all day. I had to entertain him at night, so Tim could sleep, so he could drive the next day. That was pretty harrowing.
Q: When did you move?
A: We left September 29, 1981 and got here October 3, 1981. We didn’t have time because Tim started his job on October 4. We stayed at my cousin’s house in Woodside for like two weeks!
Q: If your car had a theme song, what would it be?
A: “Rock On” by David Essex.
A: Because I like to keep moving and it’s a fun song.
Q: What do you love most about your car?
A: It’s fun to drive because it’s a stick shift. It actually has a big trunk. It’s really good on gas. I think it’s just a good run-around car for short trips.
