THE DEFENSE

Q: Hi Judy! Thank you for participating in Defend Your Ride Sacramento. When and where did you get this Escape?

A: I bought it from Hertz. It had 20,000 miles on it. That's not new, is it?

Q: Yes, it's new. In fact, you practically stole it. What do you use it for?

A: I use it for everything. My 90-year-old mother can easily get in because it's low. That's one of the reasons why I bought it. The tires are big. It makes the ride noisy. The mileage could be better. But I feel safe in it.

Q: Where's the farthest you've gone in your Escape?

A: Vancouver Island, Canada.

Q: You are also a member of the Red Hat Ladies of Elk Grove. Who are the Red Hat Ladies? Do you go anywhere with them?

A: We are ladies from 50 to our mid-80s. I go to the gym in the morning, three times a week. I go to aqua aerobics or swim laps. Then I meet my buddies for coffee. We have coffee, lunch or dinner at a Food Source market in Elk Grove. The group varies from eight to 12 people. We let anyone join us. A lot of people who go to the gym go there afterwards for coffee.

Q: At a Food Source? Since when did a Food Source supermarket sell sit-down coffee and meals?

A: It used to be a Raley's Supermarket. And once a month, we go to Red Hawk Casino in Placerville. It's one of the favorite places for us to go. I am usually one of the people who drive. I'm not a very good passenger. I'd much rather be driving.

Q: Naughty girls! So eight of you pile into your Ford Escape and you drive everyone over there? What's your pleasure? The slot machines?

A: We play Switch. Two blackjack hands, so the bet is doubled. And you're dealt two hands, face up. Dealer is dealt on face up and one face down. If you look it up online, there are all kinds of rules. You can even practice playing online. You can play without money online.

Q: What are your rules for your passengers?

A: No smoking. My husband smokes, so we take his car.

Q: This vehicle is a good fit for you. What's your next ride going to be like?

A: Just like it. I will buy another one when I reach 100,000!
