What To Consider When Building A Home Gym In Sacramento

Are you one of the many Sacramento residents who resolved to get in shape this year? Did you take advantage of New Year's specials and join a gym, with the well-intentioned goal of working out every day only to find you are flushing that monthly membership fee down the drain? It might be time to save yourself money by cutting out the costly gym membership and starting your own home gym. Home gyms range anywhere from a treadmill in the corner of the living room to a workout space full of equipment in a spare room or basement. Whatever your size, budget or workout goals, the benefits of a home gym are the same: it saves time and money, you can work out any time and there is no waiting for popular equipment. Here are some basic options to get you started in your Sacramento home because they will take up the least amount of precious space.

1) Cardio - Whether your goal is heart health or weight loss, cardio equipment is a gym essential. Treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes are the most popular and range in price from $500 to $1500.

2) Dumbbells
- A good dumbbell set can help build strength, muscle tone and definition. Pick a variety of sizes, because weight requirements vary depending on the exercise. Dumbbells range in price from $6 to $20 a pair. Another option is to purchase an adjustable dumbbell, which gives the benefits of multiple weights in one piece. The standard adjustable dumbbell ranges from 5 to 25 lbs with just the flip of a button.

3) Total Body Machine - If you are looking for more of a workout, consider investing in a total body workout machine. Utilizing resistance cables and weights provides a full-body workout with just a few exercises. These machines start at about $500, but are a great option for packing a lot into a small amount of space.

4) Miscellaneous Gear - Fitness balls, resistance bands, jump ropes - these are all must-haves for any home gym. Cardio and dumbbells are great, but these small, inexpensive items help give you an all-around workout and add variety to your exercise routine.

5) Extras - If you have a dedicated space such as a spare room or basement, you may consider adding extras such as mirrors, floor mats and a television or radio. For just a few extra dollars, these extras can enhance your workout and make it more comfortable and enjoyable.
