Sacramento area teenagers got quite the lesson Thursday night about the deadly consequences that texting and driving can bring.

The young drivers and their parents drove a course at Cal Expo in an event sponsored by Allstate Insurance.

The drivers were told to text or talk on the phone and drive all while trying not to hit cones or other obstacles.

The teens say they got the message.

“It was such a distraction just to like have the phone near my ear. It was crazy,” said one teenage girl who had just driven the course.

“Next time I’m driving, I’m going to know not to go anywhere near my phone,”
said another teen.

The course travels from city to city and will be in Reno this weekend.
