Military Plane With In-Flight Emergency Lands Safely At Mather

SACRAMENTO (CBS13)  - An Air Force transport plane landed safely at Mather Aiport after declaring an in-flight emergency early Thursday morning.

Pilots of the C5 Galaxy were forced to shut down the number 3 engine after a puncture in the gas line started a small fire in the engine.

The C5 was flying to Travis Air Force Base but was forced to divert to Mather to make the emergency landing.

Military jets escorted the plane as it landed at Mather and fire crews were waiting on the tarmac.

The cause of the engine failure is being investigated.
