Colleague Of Dance Teacher Who Slept With Minor Speaks Out

CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) --  CBS13 is now learning that officers knew about allegations that a dance teacher in Calaveras County had sex with a 16-year-old student seven months ago.  So why was the dance teacher taken into custody just three weeks ago?

It has been nearly a month since Sarah May Davey plead not guilty to charges of sex with a minor, but there are more allegations, and a former teacher now says the 32-year-old admitted to him what she had done was wrong.

It was the summer of 2009 that Sean Lewis met Sarah May Davey.  He started taking classes at the Satori School of the Arts, and eventually teaching some.  Then last summer, during a rehearsal, Davey confided in Lewis and another student.

"Kinda giggling she said 'I did something really bad last night, I need to be chained up'," says Lewis.

Lewis says he asked her who it was and she told him the name of the student, a 16-year-old.

"It was almost like a 16-year-old girl telling her best friend that she had made out with Johnny at prom, it was very childlike," said Lewis.

On the victim's Facebook page, in late May, the banter begins with him saying "I don't know what to do, LOL.  It's such a weird situation, and uh yeah, this has never happened."

Lewis and several parents confronted Davey, and she didn't deny the allegations.

"Tried justifying by saying she was lonely, which to be is a piss poor justification for having sex with a child," Lewis says.

She agreed to turn herself in and go to therapy, Lewis says.  As it turns out, this may have been the tip of the iceberg, with parents coming forward saying this had been going on for years

An investigation started in June, despite questions to the District Attorney, and there are still no answers as to why it's taken so long for an arrest.

"If this victim had been a young girl and the teacher Sarah was a man, I know there would have been resolution back last summer," says Lewis.

Sarah may Davey wears an electronic tracking device on her ankle which is covered by leg warmers, and as of this week, she is still teaching children at the Satori School of the Arts.

Davey is due back in court in two weeks.
