Attack On Teen Posted To Facebook, Mother Outraged

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) --  A video of a teenager attacked was posted on Facebook, and the teen's mother is saying that the authorities are not doing anything about it.

He was beaten and taunted by a crowd, and then had his bike stolen.  And it was all posted on Facebook.

"I can't really talk about it without being in tears at this point.  I don't know how to explain the feeling; kind of a helpless feeling," says Suzanne, the teenager's mother.

Suzanne says her 15-year-old son was lured to a playground by a girl he recently rejected.  He agreed to chat with her, but arrived to find a crowd of 25 to 30 teens, including a couple of adults.

In the first video, the teen is slapped and then cornered and taunted for at least five minutes, then challenged to a fight.  At one point, he offers his attackers cash to leave him alone.  Moments later, he says he was forced to fight, and it's captured in a second video.

His mother is furious about the attack, and frustrated by the response she says she got from law enforcement.

"I'll be honest with you, he said, we have budget cuts and the DA doesn't want to see cases like this," says Suzanne.

But, a spokesman for the Sacramento Sheriff's Department insists the incident will be investigated.  But at this point, it's just a misdemeanor, because no injuries were reported and it was an isolated incident.

"Unless it's an ongoing incident, with multiple occurrences, then it doesn't rise to the level of bullying," explains Sgt. Tim Curran, Sacramento Sheriff's Department.
