Calif. Congresswoman: PG&E Can't Find Key Records

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A California congresswoman says Pacific Gas and Electric Co.'s president told her the utility cannot find key records for nearly a third of its gas transmission lines running through urban areas.

Rep. Jackie Speier told The San Francisco Chronicle she spoke this week with PG&E President Chris Johns, who gave her the estimate. The documents are crucial to setting correct operating pressures for gas lines.

In December, PG&E disclosed it had erroneous documents about the pipeline that exploded in San Bruno on Sept. 9, killing eight people.

The California Public Utilities Commission has ordered state utilities to present reliable records for transmission lines by March 15.

PG&E spokesmen did not immediately respond Friday to a request for comment.
