Police Hunting For Davis Cat Burglar

DAVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- Police are searching for suspects in a series of recent burglary attempts that have taken place at occupied residences.

The Davis Police Department said an unidentified man, described as about 6 feet tall and wearing a flashlight on his head, tried to enter a unit at the Wake Forest Apartments at about 4:00 a.m. Wednesday but fled after a startled occupant confronted him.

At least four similar crimes have been reported within a one-mile radius in West Davis since February 2, authorities said.

The suspects struck homes on Drake Drive, Anderson Road and Sycamore Lane at various times, targeting electronics in open areas of the home while victims were sleeping.

No victims have been attacked in any of the incidents, but police are concerned with the brazen attitude of the suspects; most burglary attempts take place when victims are away from their residences.

The Davis Police Department is warning residents to ensure their doors and windows are securely locked at all times and to call the police department directly in case of an emergency at (530) 758-3600. Cell phone calls tend to be routed to the California Highway Patrol.
