Elk Grove PD Questioned Drivers Near Shooting Site

ELK GROVE, Calif. (CBS13) -- Authorities set up a checkpoint at the site of Friday's shooting that left a Sikh man dead and another critically wounded in hopes of finding witnesses for the murder.

The Elk Grove Police Department stopped vehicles just south of Geneva Point Drive on East Stockton Boulevard, where 65-year-old Surinder Singh was fatally wounded and 78-year-old Gurmej Atwal was injured after gunshots erupted late Friday afternoon.

There is no apparent motive for the attack and members of the Sikh community fear the murder was the result of a hate crime.

The checkpoint was lifted by 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators are searching for suspects who may have been driving a tan or light brown Ford F-150, likely a 1999 to 2003 model.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects has grown to $32,200, thanks to donations from a variety of sources.
