Suspects In Elderly Beating Appear In Court

AUBURN (CBS13) – Two suspects accused of a multi-county crime spree including the brutal beating of an elderly man in his Nevada County home appeared in court for the first time today.

Court appointed attorneys for 22-year-old Dillon McMahon and 19-year-old John Adrian both entered not guilty pleas on behalf of their clients who are being held in the Placer County Jail without bail.

The two are suspected of stealing a car in Placer County then driving to Nevada County where they allegedly beat 81-year-old James Wright with a crowbar in his Penn Valley home.  Wright is still hospitalized with serious head injuries.

The two suspects were later captured in a stolen car after leading officers on a pursuit that eventually ended in Yuba County.

Today, McMahon and Adrian heard the charges against them in Placer County.  McMahon was charged with two counts of carjacking, one count of kidnapping, one count of kidnapping during commission of a carjacking and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime. All are felonies.

Adrian was charged with a felony count of carjacking and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a crime.

Both are also being held on a warrant from Nevada County on an attempted murder charge.
