DAVIS (CBS13) – A downtown Lodi bank had to be evacuated a robber hit the bank this morning and left behind a backpack that authorities thought could contain an explosive.

Police say the Bank of the West at 229 S. Church St. was robbed this morning around 10:00.  The suspect got away but left behind a backpack.

Police called out the bomb squad believing the backpack may contain some sort of explosive device.  A nearby church and school were also on lockdown as a precaution.

After investigating, it was determined to be safe.

However, the suspect is still on the loose.  He's described as a white man, 30-40 years old with facial hair.
