NATOMAS, Calif. (CBS13) — The man arrested last week over accusations he exposed himself and groped underage girls worked with kids as a youth soccer referee.

Raymond Brau, 33, worked as a referee for the Natomas Soccer Club for the past two seasons, according to officials.

Brau was arrested last week on charges of sexual battery, indecent exposure and molesting a child under 18 after two girls called police last week. Investigators said Brau pulled down his pants and called the girls’ attention to him while shouting vulgar phrases.

In a jailhouse interview, Brau denied the allegations but said he has requested a psychological evaluation to determine his mental state.

Representatives for the soccer club said they don’t believe any of their players were victimized by Brau.

“The referees do not have one-on-one contact with players, because during the day they’re busy, they’re only reffing games,” said Antonio Ortiz.

Club managers said they do not perform background checks on referees. Since Brau does not have any convictions on record, a background check likely would not have alerted officials.
