Downpour Sets Rain Records In SF
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- With rain a rare occurrence in Northern California in June, a powerful weather system is breaking rainfall records as it moves across the region.
The National Weather Service says a little more than an inch of rain had fallen in downtown San Francisco from late Friday through early Saturday afternoon.
The rainfall amount, more comparable to a winter storm, broke a previous record for June 4 of just under half-an-inch set in 1934.
Rainfall records were also set for Oakland and San Jose.
Coastal mountains saw heavier rain, with more than two inches of rain falling in the Santa Cruz Mountains from late Friday through Saturday afternoon.
National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin says despite the heavy rain, no major problems have been reported.
