Thousands To Mourn Fallen San Francisco Firemen

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Firefighters from around the country are among thousands expected to gather in San Francisco to pay tribute to two city firefighters who died while battling a house fire.

The funeral service for firefighter-paramedic Anthony Valerio and Lt. Vincent Perez is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. It will be followed by a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma that is expected to include 150 to 200 fire engines.

Up to 6,000 people are expected to attend the funeral service, including firefighters from Los Angeles, New York and Boston. Gov. Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee are also expected to be in attendance.

The 48-year-old Perez and 53-year-old Valerio died from injuries they suffered while battling the June 2 fire in the city's Diamond Heights neighborhood.
