Military Asking Men To Donate Plasma To Help Injured Soldiers

MATHER (CBS13) – The military wants you.  Actually, they want your plasma.  The military has put out a call for plasma, a blood component critical for survival of injured soldiers on the frontline.

Sacramento-based BloodSource is helping collect the plasma but only from male donors who have Blood Type AB which is the universal donor for plasma.

While the military usually collects its own blood for its troops, BloodSource is part of a nationwide agreement with the Armed Services Blood Program Office to provide blood for the military when the military falls short during wartime.

BloodSource asks men who are willing to donate plasma call BloodSource at 866-822-5663 to schedule an appointment or through www.bloodsource.org. BloodSource is trying to discourage donors from walk-in appointments due to the limited number of automated machines that are used to collect plasma.
