Buy It And Try It: Mr.Clean Auto Dry

Good day Sacramento's weather guy Cody Stark washes his car about once a month, but it rarely comes out the way he likes."I don't like that it always leaves a film on it, I don't like it at all. I don't like the fact I have to scrub, or do manual labor. That I don't like at all," says Stark.

The Mr. Clean Autodry Car Wash Pro Series won't stop the manual labor part, but should take care of the film and the spots, all without hand drying! We decide to clean one of the dirtiest cars we could find in the CBS parking lot. It so happens to belong to one of the producers.

Cody opens up the Mr. Clean carrying case and finds the spray gun! "Looks a little bit like something Batman would have, pow-pow!" shouts Stark.

There's also a mitt and a special filter and soap, both designed to eliminate spots. We follow the directions putting the filter into the sprayer, and fill up the reservoir with their soap. Now to the quick connector, one part screws into your hose, the other the gun.

"Tightly attach male connector to the device, attach female connector to the hose. Does that look like a male connector to you?" questions Kurtis.

"I don't know, I'm from Alabama," answers Stark.

The purpose of the quick connector: the ability to attach and detach the sprayer from the hose whenever you want. Now that they're connected it's time to wash a car. Cody turns on the hose, wets the car as the directions say, but the Autodry gun has already sprung a leak where the hose connects to the gun. "This thing is leaking, I think we're getting more H2O on me than the truck," says

Using the jet action spray we get the tough dirt off the car, and then switch to a different dial to soap up the car. I decided to head across the street from the station to wash the car like I normally do. Back at the station Cody struggles.

"After a hard day doing Good Day Sacramento I usually wash Bender's car, go pick up his dry cleaning, sometimes make him a sandwich before he takes his nap," says Stark.

Now it's time for Mr. Clean Autodry. He rinses the car off then switches the dial to the special setting that deionizes the water, which is supposed to cause the car to dry fast without spots. "It says start at the top and mist down, it doesn't say anything about holding the connector so it doesn't leak all over the place," says Stark.

A soaked Cody thinks he's found a better use for the auto dry system. "I would probably use it as a ray gun to scare the neighborhood kids- get out of my yard- that sort of thing," adds Stark.

Let's check out the results. Because the hose kept popping off Cody wasn't impressed. "For your trouble, we got you some ice cream, you can have two even, if you want," says Kurtis.

We followed the directions as said. After, we plugged in the hose directly to spray the gun, bypassing the whole quick connector device. There was no leaking, and it did seem to work, cleaning the car without spots.

The Autodry runs for $34.89, and keep in mind you have to pay for soap and refills that will run you $20 for every 10 washes.
