Buy It And Try It: The Oxi Clean Detergent Ball

Never clean, never measure. That's the claim of the Oxi-Clean "Toss-N-Go" detergent dispenser. So we gave the detergent to a determined producer who often has his hands full.

The Manoucheris have a full house, four kids, a wife, and a grandma babysitting. And with four kids they do a lot of laundry, so their house is the perfect test for the Oxi-Clean detergent ball. "I'm panning for gold…they get a lot of dirt," said Hannah.

"Just toss in and go. It looks like a giant sweet tart. We just had Sam, one of the twins, throw up all over the car seat and everything, so here goes!" said Dave.

25 plus loads is the claim. Just toss in the dispenser full of detergent and let the washer do the work. "Why isn't it working? Boy you can tell who really does the laundry," said Dave.

We had Dave and his family do the first load. "It worked pretty well. It's really clean," said Dave.

And then we had them do another load…and another. "Here's load ten," said Dave.

And as for cleaning, it seems to work. "We had the school say one of the kids had lice. It wasn't true, but we washed all the slip covers, and they came pretty clean," said Dave.

But after 15 loads, it's all used up. "I think we can get one more load out of it," said Dave.

So would you buy it again? "Yeah, we just bought the refill, but it's like $14 for two more balls, but it's not bad if we can get it to 25 loads," said Dave.

The one thing the instructions says is that you'll get more loads if you use only warm and cold waters but with four kids, and dirt and stains to match, Dave says he's got to use hot water.

But overall, it cleaned everything better than he expected. The starter kit is about $8. The refills are about $14.
