College Student Survives Being Shot Six Times By Boyfriend

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A local college student was allegedly shot six times tonight by her boyfriend, but she was able to talk with paramedics as she was being taken away.

It's not everyday you have a suspect stick around and wait for police, but that's exactly what the suspect did. The 19-year-old alleged gunman first shot his girlfriend inside her apartment then chased her down, said Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies.

"They always had problems -- domestic problems. He's a jealous guy," said the Manny Beltran, the victim's neighbor.

The victim, a 20-year-old college student, managed to run to the back of her apartment, but sheriff's investigators say the suspect wasn't done.

"And he fired four or five more times. We believe the suspect was shot upwards of six times," said Sacramento County Sheriffs Department Sgt. John Ramos.

Neighbors heard the chaos.

"When I came out I was like 'oh, my gosh,'" said Beltran. "First it was screaming and then bam-bam-bam-bam six times."

Then, the suspect didn't run and didn't hide. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

"After that the suspect placed the gun down on the floor, according to the reports we have. [He] sat down and calmly waited for officers to arrive," said Ramos.

In fact, during the 9-1-1 call, we're told the suspect could be heard telling the caller where he placed the gun after firing.

"He was very calm and cooperative," said Ramos.

The victim's neighbors tell us the two were arguing after she tried to break off their relationship.
