Stockton Cab Drivers Pay Tribute To Murdered Peer

STOCKTON (CBS13) –- Fellow drivers, family and friends held a tribute Tuesday to a Stockton cab driver shot and killed while on the job.

Drivers throughout the city stopped their meters to send a message to stop the violence against cabbies.

Luis Palma's body was found inside his cab parked on Lincoln Street on Sunday. His killer is still at large.

Tuesday, supporters held 44 green balloons, representing his age and the color of his cab. He drove for All Town Cab and Shuttle.

""I want to hear some justice from god," said Palma's brother, Marco Palma, who helped Luis open the family business.

"The way he died was not nice so I don't appreciate that. "My brother didn't deserve that."

Some drivers are asking cab companies for better protections. Others are simply giving up fares.

Phylis Elias works the night shift and said she's been turning away some customers since the killing.

"I have an 11-year-old baby to come home to at the end of the day. I want to bring myself home," she said.

After releasing the balloons to honor Luis Palma, the drivers returned to the streets, aware of the fact that his murderer is still out there somewhere.

"To have people who are willing to take human life for a cell phone, for five dollars, whatever ... it gets tiresome," said cab driver AC Gestic.
