Storms To Bring Rain, Snow This Week

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The first wave of a two-storm system shouldn't cause too much trouble for the Sacramento Valley, but the second wave could bring a nasty round of damaging wind and rain.

Weather forecasts predict that light rain and winds should develop by Monday morning over Northern California, dropping temperatures throughout the region and threatening precipitation through Monday evening that could even bring a light dusting of snow to elevations about 8,500 feet.

The second system is expected to arrive by Tuesday night and will likely pack a bigger punch. The Sacramento and Stockton area could see half an inch to a full inch of rain from Tuesday through Thursday and the Redding area could be drenched underneath two full inches of rain in the same time period.

Thunderstorms and strong sustained winds around 30 miles per hour could lead to downed trees, power lines and localized flooding on the valley floor.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from Tuesday night to Wednesday night in anticipation of 10 inches of accumulated snowfall above 7,000 feet in the Sierra. A few inches of snow could gather around 6,000 feet elevation and the snow line could drop as low as 4,500 feet early Wednesday morning.

Sierra roadways will likely be affected and officials say they don't expect drivers to be prepared for the nasty weather this early in the season.
