Tracy Man Gets 30 Years For Ecstasy, Cocaine Trafficking

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A massive drug trafficking investigation by local and federal law enforcement agencies led to a 30 year prison sentence for a Tracy resident, authorities said.

Sartaj Chahal, 41, was sentenced Thursday for two counts of drug trafficking after his conviction during his 2010 trial, according to United States Attorney Benjamin Wagner.

Investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Elk Grove Police Department and San Joaquin County Metropolitan Narcotics Task Force collected evidence that implicated Chahal in the transportation of more than a half million MDMA (ecstacy) pill from Canada, much of which was distributed through the Sacramento and Los Angeles regions.

Chahal was also accused of transporting 98 kilograms of cocaine to Canada.

The decades of prison time were levied due to the "massive quantities" of drugs involved in the case, as well as Chahal's status as an illegal immigrant due to asylum fraud, according to Judge Frank Damrell.

When Chahal's prison sentence is served, he will likely be deported to Punjab, India.
