Motorcyclist Dies After DUI-Related Crash

WATERFORD (CBS13) -- A suspected drunk driver has been arrested after crashing into a motorcyclist Sunday morning, killing him, according to police.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and the Modesto Police Department said it appears the driver of a red Pontiac G6 was traveling eastbound on Highway 132 near E Street just after 7:00 a.m. when he drifted over the center line, smashing head on into a westbound motorcyclist.

The sedan continued on until it struck a large tree, authorities said.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 50-year-old Hilmar resident, was thrown from his cycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the sedan, identified as 24-year-old Hugo Alfredo Huerta-Viera, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later arrested after investigators determined he was driving under the influence.

Huerta-Viera is facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in a death.
