Roseville Victorian Targeted For Vandalism

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) -- A 102-year-old Victorian home once owned by the man who brought the railroad to Roseville became a target of vicious vandals recently.

Police made an arrest but the suspect wasn't found inside the home. He was found in Bob Caudle's mobile home, parked in the back.

In the last several weeks, Caudle's learned, he just can't keep criminals out of his historic home, the Hemphill Mansion.

Just a month ago vandals left the water running, stole antiques, even vomited on his pool table, causing more than $20,000 in damage at the home he rents out for events.

"They broke in so many times I can't even keep track of which ways they got in," Caudle told CBS13. "We just couldn't figure out why or who would do it ."

Just when he thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.

"The evening that you guys did that story they broke in one last time," he said of a previous story on CB13.

This time they poured bleach and paint stripper on Bob's dance floor and carpet. He didn't know, but luck would finally be on his side last week when a neighbor called police after spotting a man at the Victorian home.

Bob says when police got there they discovered a bloody mess and a man inside Bob's bus parked in the back.

"He cut himself up on the glass pretty bad from what I understand," Bob explained.

Now Bob hopes police will test the suspect's DNA and compare it to the vomit left behind in last month's break-in. He suspects that if they do, they'll likely find a match.

"And it's been quiet ever since the officers took him into custody," Bob said.

Police say processing a DNA match could take a few months. In the meantime, Bob has installed security cameras all around the home.
