Help For Two-Legged Chihuahua Floods In

DAVIS (CBS13) – A dog born without front legs is getting a huge amount of support after the Yolo County SPCA reached out for assistance.

Calls and emails poured in after CBS13 brought you the story of the disabled 7-week-old Chihuahua named Joey who was saved when a veterinarian refused to euthanize her at her owner's request, according to foster pet owner Ashley Dunleavy.

"We got a cart donated by somebody who has a dog with the same disability and their dog grew out of their cart," Dunleavy said.

A company named Ortho Pets, based out of Denver, had even better news for the SPCA when they offered to build a mobility device for Joey.

"They couldn't resist her cuteness any more than we could," Dunleavy said. "It's going to make her life completely different."

The company has offered to fit Joey for a cart and then adopt her out when she's adapted to life on two legs. Joey will even get new carts and extras as she continues to grow.

The opportunity is the best option for Joey, but Dunleavy said it means she will have to say goodbye to the special dog.

"Knowing that we will still have the opportunity to follow her and her life, it kind of makes it worth it," she said.
