Man Dead After Shooting, Crash In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) -- One man is dead and four other people had to be hospitalized after a shooting triggered an accident in Stockton on Monday afternoon.

A maroon Chevrolet Suburban was stopped at light on Wilson and Harding ways at about 3:24 p.m. when a small silver sedan crashed into it, flipping the SUV on its side with the sedan wedged under it.

Police found a man inside the sedan suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transferred to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Matthew Bosa, 29, of Stockton. The four occupants of the SUV were transported to a local hospital with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they believe Bosa was driving south on Wilson Way approaching Harding when he was shot and continued on into the intersection before ramming into the SUV.

Cora Jackson was walking home from her grandchildren's school when she heard pops and a woman screaming.

"I heard like two, it sounded like backfires. She was screaming 'oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. They shot him, they shot him, he got shot,'" Jackson told CBS13.

Investigators say the silver sedan narrowly missed a light pole and a truck towing a boat before crashing into the SUV.

A source tells CBS13 that the shooting happened within a block of the crash, and Bosa is known to hang out with gang members.

The source also confirms there was a woman in the silver sedan at the time of the shooting, most likely the same woman Cora saw screaming. Investigators are questioning her for clues.

Now it's made Cora think about where she lives.

"We didn't think when we moved here it would be like this," she said. "And it's scary to think that it's this close to our house. You hear about this stuff on TV, but you never thought it would happen this close like this.

Police investigators are still trying to figure out a motive.
