MODESTO (CBS13) – A woman was struck and killed late Friday night in a traffic accident in north Modesto, according to authorities.

The Modesto Police Department said two friends were crossing Standiford Avenue near Longbridge Avenue when a passenger vehicle slammed into one of the pedestrians just before 10:45 p.m.

The female victim was rushed to the hospital, but she later died from her injuries, police said.

Investigators have not released the cause of the accident but say neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role.

The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of her family.

    I live in Modesto, and people in this town drive like they’re on crank. I’m not sure this was the case here, but it’s so true. It’s like the rules of the road (i.e. the laws) don’t apply.
