More Customers Call Lucky Supermarkets Over Breach

MODESTO (AP) — The number of people affected by a breach of credit and debit card readers in self-checkout lines at a Northern California supermarket chain appears to have grown.

Lucky Supermarkets said on Wednesday it has been contacted by more than 500 customers who believe their account information was compromised by the breach at some of the chain's San Francisco Bay area stores. That's up from the roughly 300 customers the company reported earlier in the week.

Lucky says it has sent information to the customers' banks, so they can confirm whether the accounts had fraudulent activity or attempted fraudulent activity.

Lucky has also announced that an additional Bay area store was affected, bringing the total to 24.

The company still does not know how far back the data theft goes.
