Cement Truck And Semi Collide, Overturn On Interstate 205

TRACY (CBS13) – An accident involving two overturned trucks caused a major backup on Interstate 205 on Wednesday morning as commuters try and make their way into the Bay Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident involving a cement truck and a semi truck happened just before 6 a.m. in the westbound direction of Interstate 205 just west of southbound Interstate 5 in Tracy.

CHP says the semi truck caused the crash when it tried to pass the cement truck and side-swiped it.

The cement truck overturned and landed in the center divide. The semi, a moving truck loaded with 36,000 pounds of someone's belongings, overturned and ended up on the right-hand side of the road blocking a lane.

Two lanes were open and cars were getting through, but traffic was still backed up for nearly 5 miles.

"This is one of our heavier commute areas, so yeah, the commute is a mess," CHP Officer Juan Cruz said.

There were reports of minor injuries.

CHP says the furniture and belongings had to be off-loaded before the semi-truck could be towed off the roadway. Several U-hauls were brought in to load up the items.
